24.10.06 (scroll down for current and past news items) SGQ DATES FOR 2006 A big thank you to everyone that turned out to see us at Kirkcaldy, Fort William and Aberdeen. Despite the terrible weather the turn out at these performances was great and I hope that all of you who made it enjoyed the concerts as much as we enjoyed giving them. Apologies to everyone at Bristol who bought tickets for the Bristol Guitar Festival performance. The reason for the cancellation of the gig was not our doing and beyond our control...hopefully we will be down in your neck of the woods soon.

31.03.06 Recent Performances
SGQ TAKE VIENNA BY STORM We are now back from playing in the magnificent environs of the radiokulturhaus in Vienna. A full house of over 250 people greeted us. So many in fact that extra seating was provided for the audience and set up to our immediate left and right. Giving us that lovely boxed in feeling! The response from the audience was magnificent with the band being asked to come back on stage for a third time to take a bow! We were treated wonderfully well and everyone involved with the performance, from lighting to sound ensured that the evening went spectacularily well. It is possible that SGQ will be returning to Vienna in the not so distant future, such was the impact of the band on the Austrian music going public.
The day before flying to Vienna we were delighted to perform in the Wakefield Jazz Club in the north of England. The weather was pretty poor that evening, but for all the people that braved the elements and came to hear us we give a big thanks for your warm welcome and support.
New Projects SGQ are delighted to inform you that we will soon be recording a live DVD this summer. More details as things firm up, however, this will be an extensive project which we are all very excited about.
Guitar Solo Transcriptions Yes that's right! For all you guitarists out there looking for a challenge; solos as performed by Kevin, Nigel, Malcolm and Ged from selected recordings will be appearing soon in the downloads section.
Software Downloads Due to the force of work the software branded downloads has taken longer than we had hoped. Rest assured that these excellent pieces of software that the SGQ endorse will be with you for downloading very soon.
Track Downloads SGQ tracks are now available to download on just about every major (and not so major) download site available around the world. Why not pick and choose a few of your favorite songs and recommend them to a friend? The more we sell, the quicker new music will be recorded. Go to the music tab to the left of this column to find out more.
24.02.06 Recent Performances SGQ have had quite a busy time of it over the last two months with performances at Genuig, West Linton (both with workshops added) as well as our most recent outing at Livingston. We also took part in the Burn's night celebrations by playing in Glasgow on the 24th of January. As always, it's great to get out and play and meet you all. Thanks to everyone who took the time to come to our concerts; hopefully you enjoyed our music and tell all your friends about us!
SGQ Action - Live In Oxford!
New Dates A new date has been added. We are delighted to say that we will be playing in Ardross (near Inverness) on the 11th of March which follows hard on the heels of our Campbeltown performance at the wonderfully picturesque Picture House Theatre.
Software Downloads SGQ have added two links to guitar software packages from our links sectionwhich we are delighted to endorse. They are both powerful, feature rich and inexpensive when you consider what each package offers. We looked at over fifty pieces of guitar software, in particular we wanted innovative products that were easy to use from companies that we felt would be around for years to come.
TONAL ALCHEMY Chord Alchemy is the ultimate fretboard tool from the company Tonal Alchemy. The software shows chords, scales and intervals. It really is a treasure chest of knowledge.
Chord Alchemy
SGQ are working with Tonal Alchemy to create an SGQ specific chord Alchemy version...more on this later as things progress.
GUITARMASTER
Guitarmaster takes raw wav data and translates it into standard midi files which can be read into any of today's excellent notation programs such as Finale and Sibelius. We were surprised to find that the creator of Guitarmaster is based here in Scotland...
GUITARMASTER
Again, we are looking at working with the authors of Guitarmaster to create a version of the software that is specific to SGQ.
23.12.05 First up, everyone in SGQ would like to wish you all a very happy and relaxing Christmas and prosperous New Year when it comes. 2005 was a very good year for the band with our first performances in Germany, a compilation release in Germany through Acoustic Music and an indepth interview in the major guitar magazine Akustik Gitarre. There has been several bits of news which follows, but we are all very confident that SGQ can build upon the success of 2005 with more concerts, more recordings and hopefully increased profile around the world.
Recent Performances Thanks to everyone that came to see us at the "Spin" - Oxford and "The Royal Elizabeth Hall" in London. It was great to see so many returning to hear us and get such a large turnout at both venues.
New Dates Our performance diary has now been updated. More information will be added about specific dates as information comes in. The date in Austria may well be added to with two other hopeful performance opportunities still to be confirmed.
Downloads The full interview in Akustik Gitarre magazine in now in the downloads section under the promotional category. The article is in German...so get those dictionaries out. A BBC session is now on the site, however, due to some technical difficulties It will not be available to hear until after the festivities. The stream includes an interview with the band and three songs played live.

Radio Play The SGQ will be heard all over Germany starting within the next few weeks, but we also have been greatly encouraged by the response to just one play on Radio 3s "Jazz Line Up". The website has really been taking a battering and it's great to see people from around the globe visiting us.
Website We will shortly be adding several German concert reviews including one which featured in the German newspaper influential Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung. We will also post the full feature that the band received in the recent Akustik Gitarre magazine for German visitors to the site.

Downloads Ged, Nigel, Malcolm & Kevin would like to thank all of you who purchase SGQ downloads from the various companies that stock our music online. We were not sure how the download system would work for us, but we are glad to say that we are delighted with the results. If you don't want a physical CD, or you want to choose your favorite tracks then try these sites out. A number are detailed in the MUSIC section of site.
15.09.05 The last few months have been very exciting for the band. We are happy to announce that the German label Acoustic Music will be releasing a compilation SGQ CD titled "A Different Point Of View". The songs chosen for this album compilation come from all three SGQ CD releases to date and are the favorites of master guitarist Peter Finger as mentioned on the front cover of the new album. The album will be released by the end of September so if you want an SGQ compilation...check out Acoustic Music!
Hot on the heels of this news which was also mentioned in Music News Scotland, SGQ had not one but two mentions in Akustik Gitarre magazines September issue. We had a small feature on our endorsment of Frank Krocker's Frameworks guitars, as well as a full two page spread on the band. Thanks to everyone who managed to make it out on a cold night to Glenrothes. We had a great time we hope those that came along did as well. There are several new gigs posted now so if we are in your area it would be great to see you at our concerts.
08.06.05 SGQ will have Landmarks reviewed in two guitar magazines this coming month. From America, 20th Century Guitar Magazine will carry a review and from Germany, Akustik Gitarre will carry both a review and interview with the band.
We are delighted to confirm that SGQ will be playing a set at the hugely popular "The Open Strings Guitar Festival" at Osnabrueck in Northern Germany on September the 30th. SGQ will play one set as part of the "Hot Guitar" evening. Crowds of over 800 attend these events so we are very excited about this opportunity. Other Continental European gigs will be detailed closer to the performance dates.
